THE ONDES MARTENOT

Its mysterious murmurs are eerily familiar from experimental electronic music and science fiction films of yore. Its typical sound - high, plaintive, and haunting - is easily recognised. Yet as an instrument, and despite the importance it has been played in contemporary music, the ondes Martenot remains virtually unknown. Musicians like Radiohead have revived it in recent years.

In PHANTOM OF THE OPERATOR, this astonishing and fantastic retro instrument is played by virtuoso Suzanne Binet-Audet. Suzanne honed her mastery of the ondes Martenot in Paris, where she studied in the late 1970s under the instrument's inventor himself - on the ondes Martenot that the pioneering musician himself built.
