ANNIE JEAN | Image Editing
"Working many long and intense years as a film assistant, especially on fiction feature films, working on sound and then on image editing, incessantly splicing thousands of bits of film.... these have taught me the essentials of this craft. I've always considered editing to be an apprentice's craft, just like in the apprenticeships of the Middle Ages, in numerous workshops, of diverse artistic crafts.
In 1995, I began editing in the same moment that film editing was abandoned for digital editing. A nostalgia that would not last that long, despite everything... Because at that same moment, documentaries entered into my life. By chance, but also ultimately by passion, Gabrielle Roy by Léa Pool, Le Territoire du comédien by Jean-Claude Coulbois, Bacon, The film, by Hugo Latulippe, The Phantom of the Operator by Caroline Martel, Ce qu'il reste de nous, by Hugo Latulippe and François Prévost.
I often say that the films that I edit have to inscribe themselves in the routes that my life takes, to pass from moment to moment along the traces of my deepest interrogations. They are a bit like the encounters we have with the people we meet, they forge us while raising many questions for us. In this way, the films edited form the links in a long chain. They respond to one another and form, bit by bit, that which I am. We practice this craft to make a living, but ultimately to understand who we are..."

SYLVAIN BELLEMARE | Sound Editing
"I began working on sound design because I was sick of film music. Too romantic, too predictable; I wanted to provoke film images by modifying realist sounds. I believe I have succeeded at this a few times. In general, I try to do sound recording on the same film so that the provocation starts off on the right foot..."
